In Gujarat, the campaigning for polls to the various local bodies will end this evening. The polling will be held on the 16th of this month. The counting of votes will be held on 18th February.
A total of 5084 candidates are in the fray for the elections to Municipal Corporation, Municipalities and Taluka Panchayats. Our correspondent reports that as many as 213 seats have gone uncontested in these polls.
A total of 17 candidates are contesting for the by-elections to some seats of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, Bhavnagar Municipal Corporation and Surat Municipal Corporation.
According to the State Election Commission, a total of 7 thousand 36 nomination papers were submitted for all the units under local self-government elections, out of which 1 thousand 261 were declared invalid and 5 thousand 775 nomination papers were declared valid and 478 candidates have withdrawn their nomination papers.
