Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister for Agriculture & Farmers Welfare and Rural Development, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, for increasing the number of person-days under MGNREGA to 150 for the Union Territory. The enhanced allocation aims to strengthen livelihood security in rural areas affected by natural calamities.
In a social media post, the Lieutenant Governor said that 1,962 panchayats in Jammu and Kashmir had been declared flood-affected, severely impacting livelihoods. He added that the UT administration sought special relief from the Centre, and the decision will provide stable income to vulnerable rural households, reduce economic distress, and help create durable assets.
