The Lenten period for Christians began today with Ash Wednesday marking the start. Special masses were held at several churches in Puducherry. Devotees participated in the tradition of receiving ashes, symbolizing repentance. At the renowned Sacred Heart of Jesus Basilica, Father Pichaimuthu led the Mass.

Special services were also held at other churches, including the Sacred Heart of Mary Church and Villianur Lourdes Mother Church, with hundreds of devotees attending. The Lenten season will continue for 40 days, with fasting and prayers observed. The final week of Lent will begin in April, featuring the “Way of the Cross” services.
