Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep sorrow over the passing away of the former Railway Minister Mukul Roy. In a social media post, the Prime Minister said Mukul Roy would be remembered for his political experience and for his efforts to serve society.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also expressed his condolences to his family.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, in a social media post, said Mukul Roy would be remembered for his contribution to politics in West Bengal and for his organisational skills.
Leader of the Opposition in West Bengal Suvendu Adhikari, Union Minister of State Dr Sukanta Majumdar, and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge also expressed their deep sorrow.
Mukul Roy died at a private hospital in Kolkata early in the morning today after a prolonged battle with multiple health problems. On Monday, his body was taken to the Assembly. Assembly Speaker Biman Bandopadhyay and other MLAs paid their last respects. Later, Mukul Roy’s body would be taken to his house at Ghatak Pukur at Kanchrapara in the North 24 Parganas district.
