In Ladakh, since becoming a Union Territory, it has witnessed notable progress in the healthcare sector with improved infrastructure, specialist services, and advanced medical facilities reaching remote regions. In a significant milestone, the Community Health Centre Sankoo in Kargil district successfully conducted an inguinal hernia surgery and an elective caesarean section on the same day. Both patients, including the mother and newborn, are reported to be doing well under post-operative care.
The hernia surgery was performed by Dr Raziya Banoo, Consultant Surgeon at CHC Sankoo, and Dr Ishaq Nabi, Consultant General and Laparoscopic Surgeon from Para Health, Srinagar, with anaesthesia support from Dr Asif Hussain, Consultant Anaesthetist, District Hospital Kargil.
The caesarean section was led by Dr Nasreen Fatima, Gynaecologist and Obstetrician, assisted by Dr Asif Hussain. Special attention was also given to the newborn by the supporting team.
