Labour & Sports Minister Highlights India’s Social Development Achievements at ILO and NITI Aayog Sessions in Doha

Minister of Labour and Employment and Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr Mansukh L. Mandaviya, concluded his three-day visit to Qatar after representing India at the 2nd World Summit for Social Development in Doha. During the visit, Dr Mandaviya delivered India’s plenary statement and addressed sessions organised by the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and NITI Aayog. He also held bilateral meetings with ministers from Qatar, Russia, Romania, Mauritius, and the European Union, as well as senior officials.

 

In his address, Dr Mandaviya highlighted India’s transformation through sustained reforms and digital innovation, noting that over 250 million people have been lifted out of poverty, and social security coverage has expanded from 19 per cent in 2015 to 64 per cent in 2025.

 

He also underlined India’s use of platforms like e-Shram and the National Career Service Portal to promote inclusive and transparent labour markets. Dr Mandaviya met Qatar’s Minister of Social Development and Family, Buthaina bint Ali Al Jabr Al Nuaimi, expressing gratitude for Qatar’s support to the Indian community. He also engaged with business leaders on employment cooperation and safe migration.

 

The Minister concluded his visit by meeting members of the Indian diaspora and flagging off a Run for Unity event. His participation at the summit underscored India’s continued commitment to social development and closer cooperation with Qatar.
