Kuki-Zo Council Agrees to Reopen NH-2, Ensures Free Movement of Commuters and Goods

In a significant decision, the Kuki-Zo Council (KZC) has decided to open the National Highway-2 for the free movement of commuters and essential goods. The decision came after a series of meetings between officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs and a delegation of KZC in the last few days at New Delhi.

The Kuki-Zo Council has given a commitment to cooperate with the Security Forces deployed by the central government to maintain peace along NH-02.

A tripartite meeting among representatives of the Ministry of Home Affairs and Kuki National Organisation and United People’s Front was also held in New Delhi today.

The meeting concluded with the signing of a tripartite Suspension of Operations Agreement on re-negotiated terms and conditions to be effective from the day of signing of the Agreement for a period of one year.

Kuki National Organisation and United People’s Front have also agreed to relocate seven designated camps away from areas vulnerable to conflict. They have also agreed to reduce the number of designated camps and relocate the weapons to nearest CRPF and BSF camps.
