The homicide branch of the Kolkata Police Detective Department has taken over the investigation into the lift accident at R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital, which claimed the life of Arup Bandopadhyay on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday.
Police have arrested five individuals, including two security personnel, in the case. Court has ordered police custody till 27th March for the accused today. A forensic team has already visited the scene.
Political tensions have flared up following the incident, nearly one and a half years after the “Abhaya” rape and murder case at the same institution. Separately, the Service Doctors’ Forum has demanded a high-level investigation into the matter.
