The King Fahd Causeway, a key link between Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, was closed early Tuesday following threats of Iranian attacks targeting Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province. The King Fahd Causeway Authority announced the suspension in a post on X, saying vehicle movements had been suspended as a precautionary measure amid the escalating security situation.

King Fahd Causeway closed after threats of Iranian attacks
The 25 kilometer Causeway is Bahrain’s only road connection to the Arabian Peninsula and holds strategic importance, particularly as Bahrain hosts the United States Fifth Fleet. The closure comes as tensions rise across West Asia following warnings from Donald Trump, who has issued an ultimatum to Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz by Tuesday 8 p.m. EDT, threatening strikes on Iranian infrastructure including bridges if the deadline is not met.
The shutdown is significant because the causeway has previously served as a fallback land corridor during disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz. When maritime routes faced uncertainty and airspace restrictions were imposed, this Causeway enabled movement of people, essential supplies and limited commercial transport between Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, with onwards road access to other Gulf states, making the closure a sign of growing regional security concerns.
