In Nigeria, five people were killed and 35 injured after a bomb exploded during prayers at a mosque in northeastern city of Maiduguri yesterday. Described as a suicide attack, the police spokesperson said in a statement that fragments of a suspected suicide vest were found at the site.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, but the use of suicide bombers has been heavily attributed to Boko Haram.
The explosion is the latest in a series of attacks in Nigeria’s troubled northern region, where the country is battling multiple armed groups, including Boko Haram and its splinter group, Islamic State West Africa Province.
