Kidambi Srikanth storms into Canada Open quarterfinals with straight-game win

In Badminton, Kidambi Srikanth booked a spot in the men’s singles quarterfinals of the Canada Open Super 300 tournament with a commanding straight-game victory over Wang Po-Wei of Chinese Taipei yesterday. Srikanth found himself on the back foot early in the first game; however, the world No. 49 staged a spirited comeback to clinch both games with ease. He will next face the No. 1 seed, Chou Tien-chen of Taiwan, tomorrow.

Sankar Subramanian also advanced to the last eight after defeating Huang Yu-kai of Taiwan in straight games. He will face Japanese shuttler Kenta Nishimoto next.

In women’s singles, India’s Shriyanshi Valishetty will take on Amalie Schulz of Denmark in the quarterfinals this evening.
