The Kerala Legislative Assembly has started a discussion on the crisis and anxiety related to amoebic encephalitis. This rare brain infection is caused by free-living amoebae found in contaminated water. The Assembly speaker allowed the discussion following an adjournment motion moved by the opposition.
Earlier this week, two deaths in Kerala were confirmed with cases of amoebic encephalitis. Meanwhile, the state health department has stated that the condition of patients currently under treatment at Thiruvananthapuram Medical College is satisfactory.
