Continuous rainfall over the past two days has significantly disrupted normal life across various parts of Uttarakhand. Heavy downpours have led to a sharp rise in the water levels of major rivers, while mountain streams and rivulets in the hilly regions are overflowing.
Several low-lying areas in the plains are experiencing waterlogging, while in the hills, landslides and heavy rainfall have blocked multiple road routes, severely affecting transportation and mobility. Meanwhile, the Met Department has issued a Red Alert warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall for Haridwar, Nainital, and Udham Singh Nagar. An Orange Alert has been issued for Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, Champawat, and Bageshwar districts, forecasting intense showers. Light to moderate rainfall is also expected in other parts of the state.
The current spell of rain is likely to continue over the coming days. Authorities have urged residents to remain alert and take necessary precautions. People are advised to stay in safe locations during periods of heavy rainfall. Meanwhile, in Rudraprayag district, the Kedarnath Yatra has been temporarily suspended until August 14 as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of pilgrims amid adverse weather conditions.
