Heart of Kathmandu witnesses the festivity of music and dance with locals crowding the route of the Procession of Seto Machhindranath Jatra. The Seto Machindranath Jatra in Kathmandu is a 3 to 5-day annual festival held during the Nepali month of Chaitra. This year, the jatra started on March 26 and ends today with the return of the deity to the Jana Baha temple. It involves pulling a 32-foot-tall wooden chariot carrying the White Machindranath, who is the rain deity and the guru of the Tantrik tradition of Gorakhnath. The Jatra wades through the city’s ancient streets, moving from Jamal, Asan, and Hanuman Dhoka to Lagan, where the deity is worshipped for several days before returning to Jana Baha. This festival is dedicated to the deity of rain, marking a time for renewal and fertility. It is widely attended and celebrated by both Hindus and Buddhists.
