The Kathmandu District Court granted permission to keep both Oli and Lekhak in custody for five days to facilitate further investigation. The order was issued by a single bench of Judge Ananda Prasad Shrestha, who deemed it appropriate to keep Oli, along with former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, in custody.
Taking into account Oli’s health condition, who is unwell and receiving treatment in hospital, the District court directed authorities to ensure that Oli receives necessary and effective medical care. Due to his illness, Oli appeared virtually from TU Teaching Hospital in Maharajgunj, while Lekhak appeared in person.
Meanwhile, today, Habeas Corpus petitions have been filed at the Supreme Court challenging the arrests of CPN (UML) Chairperson and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, along with Nepali Congress leader and former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak.
The petition related to Oli was filed by his spouse, Radhika Shakya, who claims that his detention is unlawful and has called for his immediate release. The Supreme Court is currently hearing the writ petition. Similarly, another petition has been lodged against the arrest of Lekhak, arguing that he was also detained illegally.
Both leaders were arrested on Saturday morning following recommendations from a high-level commission formed by the former interim government to investigate incidents linked to the Gen Z movement that took place on September 8 and 9, 2025. They face criminal charges related to the alleged suppression of that movement.
