Three Indian players: Vidit Gujrathi, SL Narayanan, and Karthik Venkataraman are competing in the Round 3 tiebreaks today, aiming to secure their spots in Round 4 of the ongoing FIDE World Cup 2025 in Arpora, Goa.
Of the 10 Indian players who reached Round 3, four – Arjun Erigaisi, R. Praggnanandhaa, Pentala Harikrishna, and Pranav V – advanced directly to Round 4 after scoring the required 1.5 points in the Classical games.
Three others: D Gukesh, Dipatayan Ghosh and Pranesh M were knocked out yesterday, while the remaining three, having drawn both their classical matches, competed today in round 3 tiebreaks.
SL Narayanan was knocked out after losing both games to Chinese GM Yu Yangyi. However, Karthik Venkatraman advanced to the fourth round, becoming the fifth Indian to do so, joining Arjun Erigaisi, R Praggnanandhaa, Pentala Harikrishna, and Pranav V.
Vidit Gujrathi won his first match in tiebreaks today, but lost 2nd game to Sam Shankland. He is still fighting to secure his place in Round 4 against American GM at this moment.
