Karnataka Gets ₹7,748 Cr for Rail Projects in Union Budget: Vaishnaw

Union Minister for Railways, Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw has informed that Karnataka has received 7,748 crore rupees for railway projects in this Union Budget, which is nine times more than UPA era allocations. Addressing media persons in Bengaluru today, the minister said that a total investment of 52,950 crore is being made in the state for upgrading railway network, for introducing safety features and to modernise 61 railway stations under Amruth Bharat programme. The announcement of high speed rail between Bengaluru and Chennai and Bengaluru and Hyderabad will reduce travel time between these three cities with large economies.

The minister said that 7000 km of high-speed rail is projected and out of which 4000 kms is already announced across the country. Ashwini Vaishnaw informed that the Ghat section of the Bengaluru-Mangaluru railway line is electrified and after safety tests and certification, the timetable to run trains between the two cities will be announced soon. He assured that the number of Vande Bharat train services will increase as manufacturing of the train sets arrives. Speaking about the Suburban rail project for Bengaluru, the minister informed that the works on four corridors are progressing at a fast pace.
