Born on 30th January 1973 at Pooranankuppam in Puducherry, Pajanivel began his journey in Silambam under the guidance of Master Rajaram. With a career spanning several decades, he has played a key role in preserving, promoting, and popularising this ancient Tamil martial art, both in India and abroad.
A master practitioner and dedicated teacher, Shri Pajanivel has trained several students free of cost, ensuring the transmission of this traditional art form to future generations. He has also represented Silambam through performances, demonstrations, and competitions at national and international forums.
Earlier, Shri K. Pajanivel received the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for Martial Arts in 2023. His other honours include the Kalaimamani Award from the Government of Puducherry in 2012, the Best Youth Award from Nehru Yuva Kendra in 2004, and the Silambam International Award in 2002.
Reacting to the Padma Shri honour, K. Pajanivel told Akashvani that he considers the honour as encouragement for taking Tamil heritage to the world for over four decades.
Further, he stressed that Silambam should be taught in schools with government support, and he will continue to put all his efforts to popularise Silambam in the global level.
