Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan has said that justice should be accessible and affordable to all rather than just being for the privileged few. He said this while addressing the National Consultation on Tele-Law Programme activities in New Delhi today, organised by the Ministry of Law and Justice under the DISHA Scheme.
The Vice President emphasised that the timely delivery of justice is a right of every citizen. He said that the recent transmission from the colonial era criminal laws to the new Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam marked a historic shift towards a more citizen-centric justice.
Further, the Vice President noted that these reforms brought justice closer to the people by simplifying procedures, reducing delays and strengthening accountability. He added that technology today has become a powerful medium of bridging long-standing service gaps.
The Vice President highlighted that more than a decade ago, instances of leakages and middleman commission were a routine thing, but direct benefit transfers now ensure that the financial assistance reaches the beneficiaries directly, transparently, and without any intermediaries.
The Vice President emphasised three priority areas: inclusivity, Quality and accountability, and innovation and purpose. He underlined that the tele law initiative stands as a powerful example of how technology can be leveraged to democratise legal services.
