The Leader of the House in Rajya Sabha, JP Nadda, has assured the House that a comprehensive investigation will be carried out to uncover the full circumstances behind the reported attack on former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Farooq Abdullah. Responding to the issue raised by the Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge, Mr Nadda said that the government is taking the matter very seriously and assured the House that a detailed inquiry will be conducted.
Mr Nadda said it is a matter of grave concern, and the government is committed to ensuring a thorough investigation. He further added that the Centre government remains committed to protecting the life and security of every citizen, including senior political leaders. Assuring the House about the safety of Mr Abdullah, Mr Nadda said the government will take all necessary measures required for his protection.
However, the Union Minister also criticised the opposition for giving the incident a political colour. He said drawing conclusions without evidence and accusing the government of having intentions against Mr Abdullah’s life is inappropriate. Referring to remarks made by opposition leaders, Mr Nadda rejected the allegations and said such claims reflected the mindset of the opposition.
Mr Nadda further reiterated that the government is serious about the matter and that a fair and comprehensive investigation will be carried out. During the Zero Hour, the leader of the opposition, Mallikarjun Kharge, raised concerns over law and order in J&K after an assassination attempt on Farooq Abdullah. In the House, National Conference MP Chowdry Mohammad Ramzan also alleged that there was no police protection for Farooq Abdulla at the time of the attack.
