Container terminal operators at the Jawaharlal Nehru Port will provide a 100 per cent waiver on ground rent/dwell time charges for West Asia-bound containers stranded at the facility for up to 15 days in the wake of disruptions due to the ongoing geopolitical disturbances in the Middle East.
In a trade notice issued today, JNPA said all terminal operators shall also waive 80 per cent of the reefer plugin charges up to 15 days to those stranded reefer containers loaded with perishable goods. The directions will benefit containers that were lying inside the terminal from 28th February or those which had gated in till 7 am on 8th March.
Emphasising that it is committed to extending all possible assistance to the EXIM community to tide over this crisis situation, JNPA said it is in constant consultation with Customs Authorities to facilitate the storage of laden containers from other ports destined to the Middle East as temporary transhipment cargo. JNPA said it has already started extending the facility to store stranded containers in the terminal’s container yards until the cargo is shipped out.
JNPA has further directed the shipping lines, non-vessel operating common carriers and freight forwarders to ensure that these benefits are passed on to the actual exporters.
