Jammu and Kashmir has achieved a historic milestone in table tennis as Ritvik Gupta clinched the Under-17 Boys National title at the UTT 87th Inter-State Junior and Youth National Table Tennis Championships, organised under the aegis of the Table Tennis Federation of India.
Akashvani Jammu’s correspondent reports that the prestigious championship was held at the New Multipurpose Hall in Dehradun, where top young paddlers from across the country competed for the national honours. In a gripping final, Ritvik defeated Sarthak Arya of Odisha in a closely contested seven-game match, winning 4-3 with scores of 11-8, 5-11, 9-11, 11-8, 6-11, 11-8, 11-7. With this victory, Ritvik Gupta has become the first player from Jammu and Kashmir to win a national championship title in the Under-17 Boys category, marking a significant breakthrough for the Union Territory in the sport. Officials credited his success to relentless dedication, disciplined training, and the growing sports ecosystem in the region, with support from the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council playing a key role. The achievement is expected to inspire young athletes across the Union Territory to pursue table tennis and aim for excellence at national and international levels.
