J&K LG expresses gratitude to FM Sitharaman for presenting ‘pragmatic Budget for Viksit Bharat’

In response to the Union Budget, Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, expressed gratitude to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for presenting a ‘pragmatic Budget for Viksit Bharat.’

 

 

The LG also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his bold development initiatives targeting the poor, youth, farmers, and women. On social media, Sinha highlighted the historic tax reforms benefiting the middle class and enhancing social security. He praised the budget’s focus on agriculture, infrastructure, MSMEs, and innovation, emphasizing its potential to accelerate growth and create more inclusive, sustainable opportunities for the region.

       

The Union Government has proposed a financial allocation of 41,000.07 crore rupees for Jammu & Kashmir in the Union Budget for the next financial year, 2025-26. Of this amount, 40,619.30 crore rupees will be provided as central assistance to help bridge the resource gap in the region. Additionally, 279 crore rupees are set aside as grants for the Union Territory’s Disaster Response Fund, and 101.77 crore rupees will go towards funding infrastructure projects.

       

The government has also allocated 9,325 crore rupees for the Jammu & Kashmir Police. This budget will cover both the revenue and capital expenditures of the police force, with 8,897.72 crore rupees for daily expenses and 428.01 crore rupees for capital projects. The Jammu & Kashmir Police are responsible for maintaining law and order, as well as traffic management in the region. Since 2024-25, the Jammu & Kashmir Police’s budget is part of the Union Budget, following the J&K Reorganisation Act of 2019.
