J&K: Historic Bi-Annual ‘Darbar Move’ Resumes After 4-Year Gap

In Jammu and Kashmir, the historic bi-annual ‘Darbar Move’ has resumed after a gap of four years. Offices observing a five-day week closed in Srinagar yesterday after office hours, while those following a six-day schedule will close today. All offices are set to reopen in Jammu on Monday.

The Jammu and Kashmir Road Transport Corporation has made adequate arrangements for the transportation of employees today and tomorrow. Under the full Darbar Move, 39 offices, including the Chief Minister’s Secretariat and other key departments, will shift completely to Jammu, while 47 departments will move in a limited capacity.

The Darbar Move, initiated 147 years ago by a Dogra Maharaja for strategic and climatic reasons, was scrapped in 2021 to save 200 crore rupees annually. Meanwhile, the government has issued rosters of ministers and administrative secretaries who will remain available at the Srinagar Secretariat this month. Five days of special casual leave will be granted to Kashmir-based employees lacking accommodation in Jammu.
