The Election Commission of India (ECI) today announced the dates for By-elections to 27-Budgam and 77-Nagrota assembly seats of Jammu and Kashmir. By-election to Budgam and Nagrota assembly constituencies will be held on November 11 and the counting of votes will take place on November 14.

 

 

The notification for the by-polls will be issued on October 13, 2025 and the last date of filing of nominations will be October 20, 2025 while the scrutiny of the nomination papers will be held on October 22 and the last date for the withdrawal of candidatures has been fixed as October 24.

 

 

The 77-Nagrota assembly seat had fallen vacant after the sad and sudden demise of BJP legislator and senior leader, Devender Singh Rana on October 31, 2024, days after the result of J&K assembly elections. The 27-Budgam seat was vacated by the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on October 21, 2024. He contested from two seats Budgam and Ganderbal. Later, he vacated the Budgam seat and decided to retain the Ganderbal seat- his family’s bastion.
