J&K Braces for Heavy Showers, MeT Warns of Flash Floods, Landslides

In Jammu and Kashmir, the Meteorological Centre forecast that the weather will remain generally cloudy today with light to moderate rain and thundershowers at many places. As per the fresh weather advisory, some districts of the Jammu division are likely to receive heavy rainfall, while South Kashmir may experience moderate to heavy showers. From today to September 7, brief spells of rain and thundershowers at a few places, with moderate showers expected over isolated areas of the Jammu division.

 

A fresh spell of moderate rainfall is also likely between the late night of September 8 and the morning of September 9, before weather conditions improve and remain relatively stable till the evening of September 11. The MeT department has also issued an advisory urging people to remain cautious amid the possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall in some districts, leading to flash floods, landslides and shooting stones in vulnerable areas.

 

Significant rise in water levels of Jhelum, Tawi, and other local rivers and tributaries, which could trigger flooding and waterlogging in low-lying areas. Authorities have urged residents to stay away from water bodies, river embankments and loose structures, while travellers on hilly routes have been advised to remain alert. People are requested to stay updated and follow weather advisories closely for their safety.
