Jean Todt Launches UN Global Road Safety Campaign ‘Make A Safety Statement’ in India

The United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Road Safety, Jean Todt, today launched the UN-JCDecuax Global Campaign for Road Safety, titled Make A Safety Statement. The Campaign is aimed at promoting everyday measures to improve road safety.

The campaign features celebrities advocating simple and effective steps such as wearing seat belts and helmets, driving within speed limits, and avoiding mobile phone use while driving. In his address, Mr Todt said that his visit to India marks the United Nations’ commitment to accelerate efforts during the Second Decade of Action for Road Safety with the goal of halving road deaths by 2030.

During the event, a project titled ‘Sustainable Financing for Road Safety in India: A Collaborative Approach’, supported by the UN Road Safety Fund was also launched. The initiative, implemented with technical support from the World Health Organization, UNICEF and the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, aims to strengthen road safety systems across India. It added that the project seeks to establish a sustainable road safety financing framework, enhance institutional capacities and reduce fatalities and serious injuries across the country.
