Japanese Defence Minister Shinjiro Koizumi has accused Chinese military aircraft of directing their fire-control radar at Japanese fighter jets. Japan’s Defence Ministry said China’s military aircraft J-15 intermittently targeted its radar at Japanese F-15 fighter jets on two occasions last evening over international waters near the island of Okinawa.
Koizumi said Japan protested to China over the radar lock, calling it a dangerous act. The defence minister added, Japan have lodged a strong protest with the Chinese side and demanded strict preventive measures. The encounter came as relations between the two countries soured over Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi declaring that Tokyo could respond to Chinese military action against Taiwan if the moves also threatened Japan’s security.
