Ahead of the start of nomination process for the first phase of the Bihar Assembly elections, Prashant Kishor’s party, Jan Suraaj, today released its first list of 51 candidates. The announcement of candidates was made in Patna by the party’s national president Uday Singh.
The list includes names of individuals from diverse backgrounds – academicians, bureaucrats, and members of the transgender community. Jagriti Thakur, granddaughter of former Chief Minister and Jan Nayak Karpoori Thakur, has been fielded from the Morwa constituency in Samastipur district. Lata Singh, daughter of former Union Minister and Jan Suraaj leader R.C.P. Singh, will contest from the Asthawan constituency in Nalanda district. Former MLA Kishore Kumar Munna has been nominated from the Saharsa seat. Renowned mathematician and former Vice-Chancellor of Nalanda University, Professor K.C. Sinha, has been given the ticket from Kumhrar constituency in Patna district.
Retired IPS officer R.K. Mishra will contest from the Darbhanga Assembly constituency, while Yaduvansh Giri, a senior lawyer of the Patna High Court and a senior party leader, will contest from the Manjhi constituency in Saran district. From the Bhore (Reserved) constituency in Gopalganj district, the party has nominated Preeti Kinnar, a transgender candidate. In the last Assembly elections, this seat was won by the state’s Education Minister and JD(U) leader Sunil Kumar.
