In Jammu and Kashmir, the 270 km strategic Jammu-Srinagar national highway, the only all-weather road connecting the Kashmir valley with the rest of the country, remains closed for vehicular traffic for the third consecutive day today amid multiple landslides and the shooting of stones along the highway. Akashvani Jammu Correspondent reports that the historic Mughal Road connecting the twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu division with the Shopian district of Jammu division shall also remain closed for vehicular traffic today for the second consecutive day.
Efforts are on to restore the connectivity as the road restoration work is going on war footing. People are advised not to undertake journeys on the road till the restoration work is completed. The traffic department has appealed to people not to travel on these roads until restoration work is completed, and to avoid paying heed to rumours. Meanwhile, the traffic is plying smoothly on the Srinagar-Sonmarg-Ghumri (SSG) road in line with the issued advisory. Travellers have been requested to confirm the latest road status through the official Twitter, Facebook and Traffic Control Unit (TCU) helplines of the J&K Traffic Police before starting their journey.
