Jammu and Kashmir: Fresh snowfall recorded in several high-altitude areas

In Jammu and Kashmir, fresh snowfall was recorded in several high-altitude areas last night, while a strong western disturbance brought rain to the plains, causing a drop in temperatures across the Kashmir Valley.

Snowfall was reported along key routes, including Mughal Road, Sinthan Top, Zoji La Pass on the Srinagar-Leh highway, and the Bandipora-Gurez road. Higher reaches such as Gurez Valley, Gulmarg, and Sonamarg also received significant snowfall, while plains including Srinagar experienced rainfall.

Talking to Akashvani News, Director of the Meteorological Department Mukhtar Ahmad said brief but intense showers may occur in isolated areas, raising the risk of flash floods, landslides, and waterlogging in low-lying regions. He added that intermittent rain or snow, accompanied by thunder or hail, is expected, with gradual improvement from later today.

Light rain is likely at isolated places over the next two days, while fresh spells of light to moderate rain or snow, along with thunder and strong winds, are forecast between April 7 and 8.

Meanwhile, SSP National Highway Raj Adil Hamid has advised commuters to travel along the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway only after checking updates from Traffic Control Units and following official advisories.
