Over 15 crore 71 lakh rural households have received tap water connections under the Jal Jeevan Mission, covering more than 80 percent of homes across the country. The mission focuses on ensuring long-term sustainability, functionality, and reliable service delivery. In a statement, Jal Shakti Ministry said that as the mission enters its next phase, it is focusing on ensuring long-term sustainability, functionality, and service delivery, hence the role of district administrations has become pivotal.
In this regard, the ministry today organized the first District Collectors Peyjal Samvad in New Delhi. This Samvad aims at strengthening district-led governance, promoting innovation, cross-sharing, and peer learning among districts under the Mission. This initiative is part of a broader reform programme aimed at empowering districts and local institutions to manage rural water systems effectively.
The Ministry said that District Collectors act as the crucial bridge between policy and people, ensuring that every household not only receives tap water but continues to receive it reliably and sustainably.
