Israel has said that it attacked the South Pars petrochemical plant at Asaluyeh, Iran. Israel’s defence minister, Israel Katz, made the announcement after Iran said the facility had been attacked. Katz said Israel had carried out a powerful strike on the largest petrochemical facility in Iran, responsible for about 50 per cent of the country’s petrochemical production. The attack comes amid heightened tensions, as US President Donald Trump has warned of potential strikes on power plants and bridges this week if the Strait of Hormuz is not reopened.
