Islamabad Police Raid Afghan Migrant Camp; Rights Groups Raise Concerns Over Forced Detentions

In Pakistan, Islamabad police carried out late-night raids in Argentina Park, beating and detaining several Afghan migrants and women activists. Afghan Media reported that police surrounded the area without warning and cleared tents that had sheltered nearly 200 Afghan families for months. Migrants said children were injured and families were taken away without explanation. An activist reported facial injuries and accused police of using force against those advocating for women and human rights.

Refugees said that authorities threatened to send up to 400 vulnerable families back to Afghanistan, raising concerns among rights groups about violations of refugee protection standards. They said that they face daily harassment, extortion and fear.
