Iran has warned neighbouring countries hosting U.S. troops that it would retaliate against American bases if Washington carries out threats to intervene in protests in the country.
According to reports, Tehran has asked U.S. allies in the region to prevent Washington from attacking Iran. The reports added that direct contacts between Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff had been suspended.
Meanwhile, quoting three diplomats, a news agency reported that the United States is withdrawing some personnel from bases in West Asia. It said some personnel had been advised to leave the U.S. military’s Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar by today evening. Al Udeid is the Middle East’s largest U.S. base, housing around 10,000 troops.
However, Qatar said precautionary measures have been taken at the US-run Al Udeid Air Base, including the departure of some personnel, because of rising regional tensions. Qatar’s International Media Office said the steps were part of broader efforts to safeguard the security of citizens and residents and to protect critical infrastructure and military facilities.
