Iran Sends Senior Security Official to Oman as Nuclear Talks with US Continue

A senior Iranian security official travelled to Oman today, as the Gulf sultanate continues to mediate talks between Tehran and Washington over Iran’s nuclear programme, aimed at averting a potential US military strike. Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, Ali Larijani, held discussions in Muscat on ways to reach a balanced and just agreement with the United States.

Oman’s state news agency said Larijani and Sultan Haitham bin Tariq stressed the importance of returning to dialogue to bridge differences and promote regional and global peace and security. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said the talks resulted in an understanding and consensus to continue the diplomatic process. Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump will meet tomorrow, with Iran expected to be the major subject of discussion.
