Intermittent rainfall continues across Himachal; IMD forecasts heavy rain till next week

Intermittent monsoon rainfall continues across many parts of Himachal Pradesh today. Due to landslides in several areas, 291 roads remain blocked for vehicular traffic. The Meteorological Department has issued a Yellow Alert for heavy rainfall on August 1st in the districts of Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, and Sirmaur. The department has also predicted the possibility of heavy rainfall in various districts of the state until August 6.

According to the Meteorological Centre in Shimla, by July 31, the ongoing monsoon season has recorded 24% more rainfall than normal. As per the State Emergency Operations Centre, since June 20, the state has witnessed 44 flash floods, 27 cloudbursts, and 40 landslides. Rain-related disasters have claimed 173 lives, injured 281 people, and 36 individuals are still reported missing. Meanwhile, continuous rainfall in Manali and surrounding areas has caused a rise in the water level of the Beas River and near Nehru Kund, the river’s flow has shifted towards the foundation of a bridge, posing a significant threat. The administration is closely monitoring the situation and has advised people to stay away from rivers and streams and to remain alert.
