INS Tarangini Arrives at Trincomalee for ‘Bridges of Friendship’ Naval Outreach

Sail Training Ship INS Tarangini of the Indian Navy arrived at Trincomalee today as part of India’s maritime outreach initiative ‘Bridges of Friendship’, aimed at strengthening naval cooperation with Sri Lanka.

Commanded by Commander Nitin Gajjar, the three-masted barque is on its return voyage from Visakhapatnam after participating in the International Fleet Review 2026. During its stay, the ship will embark three officers and 25 trainee officers from the Sri Lanka Navy for ocean-sailing training and seamanship experience during both harbour and sea phases.

INS Tarangini, the first sail training ship of the Indian Navy, is renowned for its global circumnavigation in 2004 and its role in promoting India’s maritime heritage and naval diplomacy. After completing its Trincomalee visit, the ship will sail to Colombo for the next leg of training and engagement.
