Union Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan today highlighted that India’s sugarcane production has seen a 44 per cent surge since 2014. Addressing the Agribusiness Summit 2025 in New Delhi, the Minister said that the government, under the Market Intervention Scheme, has introduced a provision to ensure that farmers receive a fair price for their produce. Mr Chouhan stressed integrated farming models for small landholdings averaging less than 1 hectare, value addition, diversification into fish and cattle, and strict regulations on bio-inputs, reducing from 30 thousand to just 8 thousand compliant producers.
He added that for horticultural crops, if the rate falls below a certain limit, the government will deposit the difference between the model rate and the sale price directly into the farmer’s account. Mr Chouhan highlighted that Farmers are the greatest practitioners of Science. He further called for high-quality and proper inputs for farmers.
