India’s sugar output to rise 15% in 2026 on strong monsoon, easing supply concerns

India’s sugar production is expected to rise by 15 per cent in the 2026 sugar season, reaching around 35 million tonnes. A report published by a credit rating agency says that the increase is likely due to an above-average monsoon, which will boost sugarcane yields and acreage, especially in Maharashtra and Karnataka. It added that higher production will ease domestic supply concerns. It is also expected to support greater ethanol diversion and allow exports to resume, if policy conditions are favourable.
