India’s power distribution utilities have turned sector-wide profit: Union Minister Shripad Yesso Naik

Union Minister of State for Power Shripad Yesso Naik today said that for the first time, India’s power distribution utilities have turned a sector-wide profit. The Minister said this while chairing the 6th meeting with Group of Ministers constituted for addressing the issues related to the viability of electricity distribution utilities at the Bharat Electricity Summit 2026 in New Delhi. Mr Naik said that the gains achieved so far are notable and show that the sector is finally on the right path. The Minister further emphasized the significant role of financial viability of the power sector in the country’s journey to Viksit Bharat. The meeting was attended by Energy Ministers of the states, senior officials from Central and state Governments, State Power Utilities of Member States and Power Finance Corporation Ltd. During the meeting, states broadly endorsed the recommendations of the Ministers’, expressing willingness to move forward on the next wave of power sector reforms.
