India’s Media & Entertainment Sector Hits ₹2.78 Trillion, Digital Media Crosses ₹1 Trillion: Minister Ashish Shelar

Maharashtra IT and Cultural Affairs Minister Ashish Shelar, speaking at the launch of the FICCI-EY Media & Entertainment Industry Report 2026 in Mumbai today, said India’s media and entertainment sector reached ₹2.78 trillion in 2025, growing at about 9% annually. He highlighted that digital media crossed ₹1 trillion, while live events surged 44%.

He emphasised the sector’s role in driving economic growth, cultural influence, and job creation, while underlining Maharashtra’s initiatives—through the AVGC-XR policy, infrastructure development, and talent programmes—to position itself as a global hub for media and entertainment.

According to the report, India’s M&E sector grew 9% year-on-year to ₹2.78 trillion in 2025, driven by digital media, advertising, and live experiences, despite regulatory and cost pressures.

Digital media emerged as the largest segment, with digital advertising rising 26% to ₹947 billion, contributing nearly two-thirds of total ad revenues. Overall advertising grew 13.5%, outpacing nominal GDP per capita growth, led by digital platforms, while television continued evolving alongside digital consumption.

Kevin Vaz, Chairman of the FICCI Media and Entertainment Committee, noted that 2025 marked a transformative year for the industry, driven by scale, innovation, and the convergence of technology with storytelling.
