India’s Anandkumar Velkumar made history by winning country’s first-ever senior medal at the Speed Skating World Championships, claiming bronze in the 500m+ D sprint. The achievement comes just weeks after he won another bronze in the 1000m sprint at the World Games in Chengdu, China, also a first for India.

 

 

Velkumar has been steadily rising on the international stage. He first gained attention in 2021 with a silver at the Junior World Championships. With two historic bronzes in a month, his success marks a breakthrough for Indian speed skating and signals a bright future for the sport in the country.
