The Indian textiles sector has witnessed remarkable growth over the past decade, expanding from 8.4 lakh crore rupees in 2014 to around 16 lakh crore rupees today, emerging as one of the country’s largest employment-generating industries.
Addressing the 74th Edition of the India International Garment Fair (IIGF) in New Delhi, Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh highlighted that the domestic market also grew from 6 lakh crore rupees to 13 lakh crore rupees in 2025, while exports have risen by over 25 per cent since the pandemic.
Mr. Singh said, the IIGF has become a trusted global platform for international garment buyers. He noted that the Narendra Modi government has removed multiple barriers in the textiles sector by implementing several schemes. The minister also pointed to international growth, with the country’s textile exports expanding by 77 per cent to Argentina, 30 per cent to Egypt, 20 per cent to Poland and Japan, and 10 per cent to Sweden and France. Singh added that India is reducing dependence on foreign benchmarks and developing its own standards through initiatives like VisionNxt and IndiaSize.
