Indian Railways plans to renew over 7 thousand 9 hundred kilometers of track over the next two years. The Railway Ministry today informed that more than 7 thousand 5 hundred kilometers of track renewal work is underway in the current financial year 2025-26, and over 6 thousand and 8 hundred kilometers of track renewal has already been carried out in the last financial year. It further noted that high-speed capable track length nearly doubled, from 31 thousand kilometres in 2014 to over 84 thousand kilometres now, enabling 110 kilometres per hour plus operations across eighty per cent of the National Rail Network. The Ministry added that over the past 11 years, the Railways strengthened its track infrastructure and enhanced safety standards through sustained investment and focused execution.
