Indian Railways’ OSOP scheme emerges as major initiative for promoting local craftsmanship & generating livelihoods

The Indian Railways’ One Station One Product OSOP scheme has emerged as a major initiative for promoting local craftsmanship and generating sustainable livelihoods across the country. The Ministry of Railways said that the OSOP scheme has expanded to over Two Thousand railway stations, benefiting more than 1.32 lakh artisans, weavers, and small producers by providing them direct market access to millions of railway passengers every day.

It also said that by integrating commerce with culture, the Railways has transformed stations into centres of local enterprise. The One Station One Product initiative reflects the spirit of Vocal for Local by empowering communities and preserving India’s rich traditional crafts.

By linking local heritage with the national railway network, the initiative has strengthened inclusive economic growth while enhancing the passenger experience. A wide range of region-specific products is being sold under the scheme, including handmade pottery and bamboo crafts from the Northeast, along with spices, handloom items, handicrafts, and traditional sweets from various parts of the country.
