Indian Railways is strengthening its focus on common passengers by increasing affordable non-AC capacity, running special trains to manage rush and improving station facilities. Ministry of Railways said that Railways achieved a record production of 4 thousand 838 General and non-AC coaches in the last year. These coaches are equipped with modern passenger-friendly facilities to enhance travel comfort, reinforcing Railways’ commitment to enhance safety, comfort and the overall quality of train services.
It also operated a record 43 thousand special train trips, including over 17 thousand for Maha Kumbh, 12 thousand for Chhath Puja and 12 thousand Summer Specials to manage seasonal and festive rush. These operations helped to ease congestion, ensured smoother passenger movement and provided timely connectivity during periods of exceptionally high demand.
Following the successful implementation of the Yatri Suvidha Kendra at New Delhi Railway Station, 76 stations have been identified across the country for the development of passenger holding areas. These holding areas are targeted for completion before the festival season this year. Indian Railways also introduced Aadhaar verification and advanced technological monitoring to strengthen ticketing integrity. The move helped to deactivate or temporarily suspend over 5 crore suspicious and inactive IRCTC user accounts.
Passenger safety remained a top priority, with 84 per cent of funds allocated for safety-related works already utilised under the Gross Budgetary Support outlays for 2025-26. 13 Amrit Bharat trains were introduced, and two Namo Bharat Rapid Rail services were made operational to strengthen high-frequency regional connectivity. Thirty Amrit Bharat train services are operational at present on the Indian Railways network.
