Indian Railways has approved a comprehensive set of rail infrastructure projects aimed at eliminating congestion, enhancing line capacity, improving safety systems, and enabling faster, more reliable freight movement to passengers across the country. The Ministry of Railways, in a statement, said that the projects include the implementation of Electronic Interlocking at 34 stations across Northern Railway routes, approval for doubling of the Irugur-Podanur section, on the Chennai-Thiruvananthapuram corridor, the approval of the Rajpura Bypass Line and others. The approvals also include Barbenda-Damrughutu Doubling and Damrughutu-Bokaro Steel City 3rd and 4th Lines in Jharkhand.
The Ministry added that these approvals span Southern, Northern and South Eastern Railways, bypass corridors, and advanced electronic interlocking systems. It further said that this approval reaffirms Indian Railways’ preparedness to deliver world-class rail infrastructure at scale. The Ministry also highlighted that these projects will provide faster journeys, higher freight efficiency, improved safety, and sustained economic growth.
