The Indian Coast Guard conducted a Regional Level Pollution Response exercise (RPREX-2025) today in Mumbai to fight against the oil pollution at sea. In the exercise, a situation was developed wherein a distress call was received from a Motor Tanker vessel reporting an oil spill due to a hole onboard, following a collision with a fishing boat, resulting in heavy spillage of crude oil into the sea.
To combat the spill, a specialised Indian Coast Guard Pollution Control Vessel, along with two additional ICG ships, was deployed in a pollution response configuration. The Indian Coast Guard regularly conducts Pollution Response Exercises to assess the preparedness of all stakeholders in combating oil spills in accordance with the National Oil Spill Disaster Contingency Plan.
