An Indian-born female cheetah has given birth to four cubs in the wild at Kuno National Park, Madhya Pradesh. Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Bhupender Yadav, has described the development as a historic milestone in the country’s cheetah conservation journey.
In a social media post, Mr Yadav said that the female cheetah, Gamini-KGP12, aged about 25 months and part of the second generation born in India, successfully delivered four cubs under natural conditions. The Minister highlighted that this is the first recorded birth in the wild since the launch of Project Cheetah in 2022.
Mr Yadav noted that the development reflects the growing adaptation of cheetahs to Indian ecological conditions and underscores the success of sustained scientific management and conservation efforts. He said the achievement aligns with the core objectives of the programme, ensuring the survival and breeding of cheetahs in the wild. The Minister also lauded the dedication of wildlife managers, veterinarians, and field staff involved in the initiative.
